Neil’s English class was in the computer room. Two
groups of students had given Powerpoint presentations.
The lesson was only half over when they finished and
5 Mrs. Huckleston, very pleased with the presentations,
said that the class could surf or do whatever they wanted
in the remaining time. ‘But,’ she added, ‘please keep the
noise level down.’ It was something teachers often said,
like ‘Good morning, class!’ or ‘Get out your books
